Migraines Are Not Random —What Your Body Might Be Trying to Tell You

Hi Friends,
About 16 years ago, I experienced something that completely stopped me in my tracks. A migraine that lasted 10 days.
Not a headache — a full-body shutdown. I was on my couch, unable to eat, barely able to function, cycling through a cocktail of medications just trying to get through each hour.
At the time, I was deep in the stress of my corporate job, pushing through exhaustion, ignoring the signals my body had been sending for months. Eventually, the migraine subsided. But I never forgot it.
And recently, I felt a version of that again — a migraine that lasted 5 days. Not as long, but enough to remind me of something important: Migraines don’t just “happen.” They build.
What I’ve learned — personally and professionally — is this: Migraines are often a symptom of overload. Not just one thing… but an accumulation of factors:
When the body can’t keep up with the demands placed on it, it forces a reset. And for many people, that reset shows up as a migraine.
So how do we start preventing them — naturally? It’s not about a quick fix. It’s about creating an environment in your body where migraines have less reason to take hold.
1. Stabilize your blood sugar Skipping meals, under-eating, or relying on caffeine can trigger migraines. Build balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and fiber to keep your energy steady throughout the day.
2. Pay attention to hydration Even mild dehydration can be a trigger. Many people are walking around under-hydrated without realizing it.
3. Improve sleep quality (not just quantity) Irregular sleep patterns or poor sleep can be a major contributor. Your brain needs consistent, deep rest to regulate properly.
4. Manage stress before it peaks This is the big one. Stress doesn’t just disappear — it accumulates in the body. Daily practices like walking, breathwork, journaling, or simply creating space to decompress can make a big difference.
5. Identify your personal triggers For some, it’s certain foods (like alcohol, aged cheeses, or artificial sweeteners). For others, it’s hormonal fluctuations, screen exposure, or even overstimulation. Awareness here is powerful.
The bigger shift: Listening earlier Looking back, both of my migraine experiences had something in common: I pushed past the early warning signs.
Migraines, in many cases, are not the first signal — they’re the loudest one.
A question for you: Are you waiting for your body to force you to stop… or are you listening when it whispers?
If migraines are something you struggle with, you’re not alone — and it’s not just about managing pain when it hits.
There’s real opportunity to reduce frequency and intensity by supporting your body consistently.
If you want help identifying your personal triggers and building a lifestyle that supports your energy (instead of draining it), let's talk.
You don’t have to wait for the next migraine to start paying attention.
To your health & happiness, xoxo Amy
