How To Deal With Diet Saboteurs

When those close to you unintentionally (or even intentionally) sabotage your weight loss efforts, it can be challenging to stay on track.

Hello Everyone!

Have you ever tried to lose weight or focus on healthy habits, but those closest to you seemingly try to undermine your best efforts?

If this sounds familiar, here’s some advice on how you can maintain focus and stay on track in any situation.

1. Communicate Your Goals

Let the people you spend the most time with (friends, family, co-workers), know about your health goals and why it is important to you. Sharing your motivations can help them understand what's at stake. Sometimes people aren’t aware of how their actions affect you.

2. Set Boundaries

If someone keeps pushing you to eat unhealthy food or discourages your health journey, firmly say no. Make it clear that you are committed to your health goals and would appreciate their support.

3. Focus On Your Whys

Remember why you are on this journey. Your motivation has to be something that has deep meaning for you. People around you may not always understand or support you, but focusing on your whys will keep you going.

4. Prepare For Resistance

Understand that some people may feel uncomfortable with you becoming healthy. It may bring their own habits into question. Be prepared for comments or actions that reflect their own struggles rather than your progress.

5. Have A Plan For Social Situations

If social events, dining out or travel often derail you, plan ahead. Look at menus ahead of time, bring your own food, and decide beforehand what you will eat. Be prepared. Don't allow other people's behavior pressure you into doing something that you will later regret.

6. Spend Time With People Who Support You

If certain people consistently undermine your efforts, you may need to distance yourself temporarily from those situations. Spend more time with people who support you and your growth.

7. Stay Focused On Long-Term Success

Remind yourself that setbacks, whether caused by others or yourself, are part of the journey. Each day is an opportunity to learn, refocus and continue working toward your goals that best support your health.

8. Celebrate Small Wins

Acknowledge your progress along the way, no matter how small. This reinforces positive behavior and helps you stay on track, even when others aren’t supportive.

Here's to you and your healthy journey!

To your health & happiness,

xoxo
