Wellness Isn’t a 30 Day Challenge

How to build habits that actually evolve with you (plus 7 simple ways to start today)

Hello Friends,

August is Wellness Month, and while I love having a full month dedicated to health, it always makes me think… why do we need a calendar reminder to take care of ourselves?

Wellness isn’t a trend, a 30-day challenge, or something we turn on when we need to "get back on track." It’s something we build into our lives every single day.

For me, wellness has never been about perfection. It’s about consistent choices: the food on our plates, regular movement, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, staying connected, and listening to what our bodies need.

And the older I get, the more I realize those choices aren’t just about how we feel today—they’re an investment in how we want to feel ten or twenty years from now.

Wellness Changes as We Change

What worked for us in our 20s may not work in our 40s. What our bodies need in our 50s and beyond changes again. Major life transitions—parenthood, career shifts, menopause, new health diagnoses, or changing stress levels—require us to adapt.

Sometimes wellness means focusing more on protein and strength training to preserve muscle and bone density. Sometimes it means prioritizing rest and recovery over intensity.

Wellness isn’t static, and it isn't one-size-fits-all. It's about giving your body what it needs now, not what it needed ten years ago.

Think Beyond Today

We often look for immediate payoff—losing a few pounds, an instant burst of energy, or a quick fix.

But long-term health is built on prevention and sustainability:

  • Nourish, don’t restrict: Focus on adding nutrient-dense foods rather than eliminating things.

  • Prioritize strength: Maintain muscle and protect bone health as you age.

  • Protect your sleep: Treat rest as essential recovery, not a luxury.

  • Manage stress intentionally: Take walks, breathe deeply, step outside, or disconnect from devices.

  • Honor the basics: Stay hydrated, eat well, get outdoors, and foster connection.

  • Listen and adapt: Check in regularly to adjust your habits as your body’s needs shift.

  • Stop chasing perfection: Missing a workout or having a stressful week doesn't mean you're starting over. Just pick up where you left off.

Wellness doesn't require a complete life overhaul. Start with one small habit today—a protein-rich breakfast, a post-dinner walk, or going to bed 30 minutes earlier—and repeat it tomorrow. Small, consistent choices add up.

This Wellness Month, ask yourself:

“What can I start doing today that my future self will thank me for?”
